Key Differences Between PS5 and PS5 Slim

The new PS5 Slim is here and it’s different from the regular PS5. The latest edition offers a different look from its previous version. Customers had concerns regarding its bulky and unwieldy body which Sony has finally addressed in its latest PS5 Slim.

In this article, we will take a look at the major differences between the original PS5 and the new PS5 Slim. So without further ado, let’s take a look at the differences.

  • Size and Build

Since size was a major concern, so let’s get straight into it. If we look at the size, the Slim version is smaller than the regular PS5. Sony has reportedly reduced the size by 30% compared to the bulky version which is definitely an improvement.

Just like the original PS5, the Slim version has two models. One is built-in while the other is digital only. For digital versions, you can also buy a detachable disc drive to run physical games.

  • Power and Storage

The internal capabilities of both these consoles are the same. This situation is not the same as we saw in PS4 and PS4 Pro since the games will run the same on both consoles.

However, the Slim version comes with an expanded storage of 1 TB. For some reason, the previous version came with only 825 GB with the option to extend storage with external SSDs.

The plus point is that you can install more games depending on how big is their size.

  • Pricing

Sony has decided not to drop its price for the new PS5 Slim. With a disc drive, it costs $499 and without a disc drive, you can get the digital version for just $449.

Keeping that in mind, the digital version of PS5 Slim is a money-saver compared to the original PS5 with a reduced $50.

Should you Buy a PS5 or PS5 Slim?

Your choice will depend on a number of factors such as storage, features, and price point you are looking for. The plus factor of the new PS5 Slim is that it offers more storage compared to the standard PS5 along with a much slimmer look.

But if 825 GB seems enough storage for you, then it might be worth it to invest in a standard PS5. The standard version also has a much bulkier body compared to the slim version. Therefore, it is important to consider these factors before you make a decision.
